Many museums are concerned with the question of how they can better reach, inspire, and retain their visitors in the long term. Visitor research presents an opportunity to find answers to this question. In 2021, a founding initiative was launched by the Institut für Museumsforschung of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Haus der Geschichte Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany, the DASA Dortmund, the Jewish Museum Berlin, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and the German Museums Association. In August 2022, this initiative led to the creation of a new association, the Netzwerk Besucher*innenforschung (Visitor Research Network), that aims to establish a Germany-wide network for visitor research that will make museums fit for the future by supporting and accompanying the dynamic ongoing development of visitor and audience research at museums.
The 2022 annual conference will be held November 14-15 at the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn. Patricia Rahemipour and Kathrin Grotz will give a talk titled “Auf dem Weg zu einer digitalen Besuchsstatistik” (On the Path to Digital Visitor Statistics). You will find the program here.
