In the Museum für Naturkunde an exhibition has been dedicated to demonstrating the process of digitizing specimens in real-time. In this “digitize!” exhibition, digitization is presented as a spectacle, with the public invited to bear witness to “the museum’s digital transformation”[1]. What kind of imaginaries around digitization (and museums!) are being performed here? And how do these compare to specimen digitization projects taking place outside the public view?
